Pain patterns unravel and dissipate.
Ann Hoeffel began her study of CranioSacral Therapy in 1986. She was lucky to have studied with many expert instructors and pioneers who founded their own teaching programs and healing systems. Among them John Upldeger, DO, John Barnes, PT and, of course, Arthur Lincoln Pauls, DO and founder of Ortho-Bionomy.
In addition to other workshops, Ann currently teaches Cranial Work.
CranioSacral Therapy (CST) is a gentle form of bodywork that uses subtle touch, and connects with the nervous system to help release deeply-held tension and restore function throughout the body. CranioSacral Therapy and Ortho-Bionomy are often seamlessly combined during a session. Ann Hoeffel has been doing CranioSacral Therapy in Chicago since 1986; for info, click on Education and Certifications at left.
"I feel like I just had a weekend off, in one hour. Thank you, Ann. I feel so much better. . .refreshed and ready to go, again."

What are the Benefits of CranioSacral Therapy?
When
the CranioSacral system is normalized, far-reaching and
seemingly unrelated beneficial effects occur throughout the
entire body. Detecting and correcting imbalances in the CranioSacral System can improve your overall health, function and well-being, as well as alleviate many specific symptoms. It has also helped with chronic
fatigue, learning difficulties, motor coordination
difficulties, eye problems, endogenous depression,
hyperactivity and central nervous system disorders. Almost
everyone will benefit from CranioSacral Therapy in terms of
general health, function and vitality.
Well-known expert, teacher and founder of The Upledge Institute, Dr. John Upledger explains, "CranioSacral Therapy (CST) restores autonomic nervous
system flexibility and adaptability. It reduces accumulated
physiological stress levels. It enhances the movement of
blood and other fluids through the body tissues, increasing
resistance to disease invasions. Since is also improves the
internal environment for the brain and spinal cord, it is
very helpful for brain dysfunction, chronic pain problems,
and a wide variety of headache and facial pain problems
(including TMJ symptoms)."
By complementing the body's natural healing processes, CST is increasingly used as a preventive health measure for
its ability to bolster resistance to disease and improve healthy functioning. It has proven
to be very effective for a wide range of medical problems
associated with pain and dysfunction, including but not
limited to:
- Migraine Headaches
- Chronic Neck and Back Pain
- Stress and Tension-Related Problems
- Learning Difficulties (children often experience an immediate improvement)
- Fibromyalgia and other Connective-Tissue
Disorders
- Temporomandibular Joint Syndrome (TMJ)
- Chronic Fatigue
- Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder
- Post-Surgical Dysfunction
- Motor-Coordination Impairments
- Central Nervous System Disorders
- Orthopedic Problems
- Emotional Difficulties, Depression
- Neurovascular or Immune Disorders
- Scoliosis
CranioSacral Therapy, like Ortho-BionomĀ®, works
with your body's innate self-correcting mechanisms, releasing tension and restoring balance gently, from the inside-out. Clients often comment on how much they enjoy the deep relaxation and accompanying stress relief of a session. While very relaxing, CranioSacral Therapy works deeply and helps resolve the underlying cause of pain and discomfort for many conditions that other therapies have not helped, as described above.
The CranioSacral System
Your craniosacral system and central nervous system have a reciprocal influence on all the other systems of the body - such as the digestive, respiratory, cardiac, and reproductive systems. The craniosacral system is also important to the development and
function of the brain and spinal cord. It is comprised of the membranes and
cerebrospinal fluid that surround, protect, nourish and remove waste from your brain and
spinal cord. CranioSacral Therapy requires sensitivity and skill.
CranioSacral Practitioner
Ann Hoeffel took her first series of Cranial workshops in 1986 - Myofascial Release 1 (CST 1), Myofascial Release 2 (CST 2) and Myofascial Unwinding (very similar to Somato-Emotional Release). It must have been her study of gymnastics and dance coupled with ceramic sculpture that set the stage for Ann's understanding of body movement and her sensitive touch. She has deepened and refined her skill through many years of experience, hundreds of hours of training and by teach assisting workshops in both CranioSacral Therapy and
Somato-Emotional Release, a related course, with The Upledger Institute in the 1990's. She was blessed with the opportunity of studying Somato-Emotional Release with Dr. John Upledger, founder of The Upedger Institute (in Florida); with John Barnes, PT and founder of the Myofascial
Release Treatment Center (in Pennsylvania). Further honing her skills, Ann also trained in and teaches other highly effective, light-touch therapies (see Education and Certifications), most notably, Ortho-Bionomy®. And she was lucky enough to train with Arthur Lincoln Pauls, DO, founder of Ortho-Bionomy®.
CranioSacral Therapy, and all the wholistic therapies that Ann uses, employ the same principles -- working with inner wisdom and the self-healing capacity of our bodies and ourselves, in a way that is gentle, effective and respectful of each individual. Extensive training (in CranioSacral Therapy begain in 1986), comprising over 4500 hours, and years of practice enable Ann to seamlessly integrate the most effective complementary therapies to achieve optimal results for her clients.
